Please meet at the North Shore of Devil’s Lake.  After parking in the lot, look for the red Wisconsin Badgers shade tent (unless conditions are too windy to raise the tent) in the grassy area between the park headquarters/concessions and visitor center.  We will hike the West Bluff Trail out and take the Tumbling Rocks trail back (about 2.4 miles total).

Please bring one ingredient to add to make pack trail mix (i.e.: pretzels, cereal, dried fruit, nuts – we can make a nut-free batch if needed).

Bring your water bottle, sun screen, and insect repellant.  Wear good walking/hiking shoes.  No sandals!

Scouts will earn credit towards the following Outdoor Activity Award requirements (and possibly some adventure requirements towards rank):

  • Participate in a nature hike in your local area. This can be on an organized, marked trail or just a hike to observe nature in your area.
  • Participate in an outdoor activity such as a picnic or park fun day. (if your family choose to hang around for a picnic after the hike)
  • Explain the buddy system and tell what to do if lost. Explain the importance of cooperation.
  • Earn the Summertime Pack Award (this event counts towards 1 of 3 needed to earn)
  • Participate in a nature observation activity. Describe or illustrate and display your observations at a den or pack meeting.
  • Participate in an outdoor aquatics activity. This can be an organized swim meet or just a den, pack, or family swim.  NOTE:  We will NOT be swimming as a pack, but families can choose to stay for other activities after the hike ends.
  • Explore a local city, county, state, or national park. Discuss with your den how a good citizen obeys the park rules.
